When I was little, my parents introduced me to Paddington Bear, a classy little British Bear who loved orange marmalade. I liked hearing stories about his adventures. Paddington loved orange marmalade so much, he carried a jar around with him on his adventures.
As a child growing up in Brazil, I’d never heard of orange marmalade. On one of our furloughs to the US, I asked if I could try some, just like Paddington. I LOVED it. I loved it so much, I asked if I could have my own jar to carry around with me, just like Paddington.
As I’ve grown, so has my love of orange marmalade. I like it on toast, bagels, quick breads, or a cracker with salty cheese. I use it instead of jelly on my pb&js for lunch, and I’m told you can even make virgin cosmos with it! I learned that on Pinterest.
My favorite preparation, however, is a favorite breakfast: a slice of multigrain toast with peanut butter, orange marmalade and a generous sprinkle of Tajín seasoning (note: this preparation also works with Bonne Maman Four Fruits Jam). I have this with eggs and coffee for a filling breakfast that easily tides me over all the way to lunch time.
My favorite brands of orange marmalade, in order are: Bonne Maman, Smuckers, Smuckers Reduced Sugar (it’s not bad), and the most decent staple as we cut back on name brand loyalty, Aldi’s version.
My next adventure, inspired by Paddington Bear, is learning to make my own orange marmalade. Do you like orange marmalade? What’s your favorite preparation? Let me know in the comments.
